Team

As Macaulay Search Consultants we are ambitious to see our clients and candidates realise their full potential. We strive to provide excellent service. We are not afraid of hard work because we passionately believe that our service helps to create transformative appointments for organisations dedicated to societal impact.

Laura Bagley has 20 years’ experience in the UK and international not-for-profit sectors. She has fulfilled leadership roles in a number of charities, with much of her work focused on supporting women facing challenges including addictions, mental health issues and social isolation. She joined Macaulay Search in 2015 and enjoys engaging with the sector from a different perspective through helping purpose-driven, impactful organisations to make great leadership appointments. Alongside her role with Macaulay, Laura has also served in a range of voluntary and Board roles. She read English at Cambridge University and enjoys creative writing, sea swims and singing in Welsh.
Ewen McAlpine began his career working in grassroots community development partnerships in Ponce, Kampala, Paris and Washington DC. He then worked for the geo-political and macro-economic advisory firm Oxford Analytica before joining the executive search firm Perrett Laver where, as Senior Consultant, he helped build the Global Development Practice. He joined Macaulay Search in 2013, thriving in our relational and focussed model of executive and Board recruitment. Ewen also serves on charity boards and enjoys exploring his adopted homeland of Wales.
Anita Motha served in the Campaigns Team at CAFOD, specialising in youth engagement before being appointed as Chief Executive of the Catholic youth charity Million Minutes. She is currently a trustee of Society of St Vincent De Paul and has also been on the board of the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation. She holds an MA in Education in International Development from the University of London and a BA in Music from Newcastle University. She is currently a leadership fellow of St George’s House.
Mark Powys-Smith began his career in Investor Relations at Taylor Rafferty before moving to Brussels to work at the European Parliament and subsequently the not for profit sector. He was Executive Assistant to Canon Andrew White at the Foundation for Reconciliation in the Middle East and Research Manager at Opportunity International, a global microfinance organisation. Prior to joining Macaulay he was a Consultant at the executive search firm Perrett Laver working on Board, Chief Executive and Senior Administrative appointments within the Global Development, Sustainability and Non-Profit Sectors. He has a BA (Hons) in French and Spanish and an MSc in International Relations from the University of Bristol. Mark loves learning languages and singing. He is currently tackling Bosnian and sings at weddings.
Sam Stephens has 20 years’ experience working in executive search. He started his career at Saxton Bampfylde as a researcher working on general leadership appointments and founded Macaulay in 2008 to focus on leadership roles in for-purpose organisations. He especially loves organisations that are smaller but fast growing and anything environmental. He helped start a neighbourhood sharing app, Streetbank. Outside of work, he loves bringing people together, encouraging them to play a game and is the author of The Joy of Games; Games of Speed, Simplicity and Skullduggery.
